MEASURING GUIDE

How to Measure for the Right Shower Curtain Size

Learn how to measure your shower space before choosing the right curtains. Follow our step-by-step guides to find the measurements you need.

Measure the Installation Width

Measure the full horizontal distance between the two mounting points of the shower curtain rod. This determines the minimum width needed to cover the shower area.

  • Measure in a straight line from one end of the rod to the other.
  • Measure the usable rod width rather than the bathtub width.
  • Do not include decorative end caps or finials.
  • Record the measurement in inches or centimeters.

Allow for Natural Folds

A shower curtain should be wider than the installation area so it can hang with natural folds and provide complete coverage when closed.

  • Multiply the measured rod width by approximately 1.1–1.3.
  • Choose a smaller multiplier for a flatter appearance.
  • Choose a larger multiplier for fuller folds and better side coverage.
  • Avoid selecting a curtain that is exactly the same width as the rod.

Example: For a 60-inch rod, choose a curtain approximately 66–78 inches wide.

Measure the Required Height

Measure vertically from the curtain rod or hanging point to where you want the bottom of the curtain to end.

  • For a bathtub, the curtain should extend approximately 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) inside the tub.
  • For a walk-in shower, leave approximately 0.5–1 inch (1–2.5 cm) above the floor.
  • Make sure the curtain is long enough to contain splashes.
  • Avoid allowing it to rest on the floor, as this may trap moisture and dirt.

Account for Hook Length

Shower curtain rings or hooks add extra distance between the rod and the top of the curtain. Include this drop when calculating the final curtain height.

  • Measure from the bottom of the rod to the point where the curtain attaches.
  • Subtract the hook drop from the total rod-to-end measurement.
  • Check whether the product dimensions include only the curtain or also include the hooks.
  • If using adjustable hooks, measure them at the intended setting.

Example: If the rod-to-end distance is 72 inches and the hooks add 2 inches, choose a curtain approximately 70 inches high.

Select the Closest Standard Size

Compare your calculated width and height with the standard sizes available on the product page.

  • Confirm that dimensions are listed as Width × Height (W × H).
  • If your measurement falls between two widths, choose the wider option.
  • Avoid choosing an overly long curtain that may touch the floor.
  • Recheck the measurements before ordering.
  • Review the product details to confirm whether hooks or rings are included.
